Dress Code

Dress Guidelines

The dress code intends to ensure a neat, uniform, and non-distracting look. Students at Faith Life Academy are expected to be clean and neat in their appearance and to observe standards of modesty and moderation. “Modesty in dress” at FLA requires that students refrain from wearing items such as tight-fitting, body-hugging, revealing, sagging, or extremely baggy clothing that displays visible cleavage, bare midriffs, undergarments, etc. Clothing items that distract from FLA’s academic environment are also prohibited. Since the parent or guardian is the primary educator of the student, it is the adult’s responsibility to ensure that the student adheres to the dress code daily while on campus and at school functions. If interpretation and decisions in matters pertaining to dress code are necessary, the FLA administration is the final and sole authority of what is or is not acceptable for students while they are representing Faith Life Academy.

All Faith Life Academy students are required to dress in approved school uniform attire on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays.

Uniforms can be ordered from landsend.com. Our Preferred School Number is 900202482.

Students may wear FLA swag (T-shirts and sweatshirts) on Thursdays. Swag can be purchased at https://faithlifeeducation.itemorder.com/shop/home/.

Five-day students are not required to wear uniforms on Fridays but may do so if they wish. Friday outfits must meet all FLA’s general standards.

General Standards

Students should dress and groom themselves in a manner that is neat, modest, and respectful to themselves and the school.

Shoes are to be worn at all times and should be properly tied or fastened.

Hats are not to be worn during class. Hoods and hats that cover any portion of the face should not be worn during school hours.

Pants are to be worn so that tops can be tucked in (though students are not required to do so), or so that tops cover the beltline at all times, sitting and standing. Pants are to be worn at the waist at all times. This means the belt line will be above the hip bone. Pants should not have any rips or holes.

Undergarments should not be seen at any time.

Dress standards for school field trips and extracurricular or program activities will be established by the supervising teacher or administrator and given in advance so parents may be informed and students may be prepared. Any school-sponsored function that involves wearing a swimsuit will require a one-piece swimsuit for girls and regular shorts-style swim trunks for boys.

Specific questions concerning the application of the dress code should be addressed to the administration.

PE Guidelines

Appropriate T-shirts, including tank tops without enlarged armholes, shorts, and tennis shoes.

Sweatpants, sweatshirts, jackets, and coats may be worn in cooler weather.

Dress Code Enforcement (5th–12th)

Students in clear violation of the dress code will be removed from class by the teacher, counted absent, and sent to the school office. They will remain in the office or be sent home (parental choice) until the student can return to class in appropriate attire. This means there will not be any warnings or patience regarding gym shorts, sweatpants, torn clothing, etc.

Questionable violations of the dress code will result in a student/administration conversation that will result in an administrative decision about the possible violation.

Dress code violations will not be considered discipline violations unless there are numerous/repeated clear violations.
